Those crazy bloodlines...

So my friend and I were discussing the Clans (especially the Hyuugas, because they're crazy and crazy intrigues us) and we somehow got onto the subject of marriage. Well, we began to wonder if the members of Clans did arranged marriages. This could be plausible, because it very well could be that the Hyuugas (they will be the main example here, because they're not...well, dead!/unknown), who go to such extremes to protect their bloodline ability, would want their children marrying choice people to have a bunch of kids with to pass on the creepy eye powers. (I say the latter in jest. I make fun because I love!)
Beh, I just figured I'd bring it up to get some people's thoughts.

Speaking of the creepy eyes, is it just me, or is it that whenever we see any of the Hyuugas, they ALL have the same eye colour? (Ie, here and here) Now, either they're only showing the ones with the Byakugan, or they're doing some MAJOR inbreeding.
And where the heck are those kids' mothers? We got to see Sasuke's mom, why not Neji's or Hinata's?

Alright, shuting up now. I think too much. It will be my downfall.

I had always thought (haha, i've had this discussion with friends many times) that while the Uchiha may have arranged marriages, the Hyuuga might marry within the family. How else could they all look the same and have the same eyes?

I think it could go either way as well, because every Uchiha we've seen (with the exception of Sasuke's mom - but I don't even think she's a ninja) has had the Uchiha Creepy Eyes(TM) as well.

I'm sure there could be a million reasons why we don't see the non-creepyeyed family members, if there are any. Unfortunately, most of my ideas are in relation to patriarchal societies and make the feminist in me rage. -.-;;

When I first saw Neji and Hinata, I was like, "Omg, they both look the same! Or is it just me? *nervous giggle*" Such obvious family traits. ^D^

I always hoped the Uchihas intermarried with the Hyuugas...but I doubt it. Sasuke with purple eyes! yey! "I'm blind! Someone help me..."

The other day I read a fic where it was suggested the Uchiha and Hyuuga clan were once the same. I think it makes sense, the Baky-why can't I spell?!-always seemed to me, to be a weaker version of the Sharingan. I can totally see a reality where aaaaaaaaaaaaaages ago the clans were one, then the first B. was a deformity, that person was outcast or something..then it showed up again, and voila, after years, there is a new clan. or something. X_X

If the inbreeding went on for so long it would result in deformities and mental retardation. My vote is the Bykuagan (sp?) gene is so strong it shows up in the kid regardless of whether it comes from one or both parents. I think that family is so arrogant that in-laws aren't considered "true" clan members..or something. Hence not being in the family group gatherings.

I think your theory makes loads of sense. My kind of logic.

It also seems that the clan families are extremely patriarchal, at least to me. The few females you see (only one or two) are the mothers of the children. Other than that, women are seemingly nonexistant.
I'd also highly doubt any of them died in childbirth, being that the Narutoverse has mad skillz in medicine. So my bet is that in their mind, Men pwn Women. Kinda sad, really.

it can't be that biased. i mean hinata is the heir of the hyuuga clan. they could've just as easily found a boy to take her place. and tsunade is hokage, even if she has been the only female hokage.

Not true, actually. Inbreeding just means recessive genes have a higher liklihood of showing up. (if there's any kind of mental retardation that runs in the family, than there you go) But if you've got some desirable trait, say the byakugan, sharingan, or for a real example, good looks, you've got a higher chance of inheriting those as well. Cleopatra was inbred as hell, and regarded as one of the most beautiful. smart, etc women of all time. Until the whole, you know, dying thing.
Anyway, 'incest' taboos don't always extend past siblings and parents. In many pre-westernized societies, those that encouraged endogamy that is, your first cousin just might be your most desirable marriage partner. Hmm Neji and Hinata? I'm not sure about pre-Western Japan, though. Kinship taboos are weird, sometimes you can marry your dad's family, but not your moms, or vice versa.

If we're talking a fight between sasuke and neiji, neiji would win. but if encompase the entire spectrum of possible skills (itachi vs. the head of the hyuuga clan?) I think itachi would win.

I think it would be a hybrid. and for the love of god, if anyone writes a fic with one type of each eye I will stab myself. I want to conduct genetic test tube babies research to answer this question.

i've been wondering if Ranmaru's bloodline is a hybrid between Sharingan and Byakugan...it seems to have properties of both.

I remember reading somewhere that the Sharingan derived/came from the Byakugan.
Personally, I assume the Byakugan is stronger, as it lets you see your opponent's chakra flow, or summat. What the Sharingan does, I'm not quite sure, apart from mind powerz and "copying" techniques.

No hybrids, I doubt a powerful blood-line trait would be co-dominant, like skin and hair-color.

One would trump the other, and most likely the Sharingan. If the Sharingan is an "evolution" of the Byakugan, that means that the Sharingan trait eventually beat out the Byakugan trait in all offspring, thus purifying the Uchiha bloodline.

Did anyone ever think that the Sharingan and Byakugan may even be sex linked traits? Ever since reading a story about the bloodlines being matrilineal traits, I've been thinking about this...

Say the Sharingan and Byakugan are X-linked, that would explain why they would always show up in males because there is no other X-chromosome to counter the trait. The bloodline can show up in girls as long as both X-chromosomes had the linked trait.

Of course, this could be quite troublesome for Sasuke if he ever intended on really reviving the Uchiha clan... none of his children would have Sharingan! (For it to show up in girls, the mother would have to give up an X-chromosome with the sharingan trait linked.)

I think clans mainly the hyuuga and uchiha have incest to keep the bloodline pure yah know. Pure = better chance of bloodline right? thats my theory anyhow.... and yah the uchiha's and hyuuga's are sick fucks to do such inbreeding eh lol

Maybe the Hyuuga eyes were just genetically dominant enough so they ALWAYS showed up.
