Sasuke this, Sasuke that... HE'S NOT THAT GREAT

Okay, i gotta say this to all you naruto fans out there because it really bugs me. Why do people read/play/watch things and instantly be like " oh man he's so badass" when an antihero is introduced. sasuke's character is down-to-the-letter stereotypical anti-hero-ravenge-boy! what's the bet when sasuke returns, within a week of the chapter, the internet will be flooded with crappy fanart of him; with maybe a handful of good pictures. most of which sasuke will just be standing there plainly or in a bad attempt at humour. like really. i'm a big fan of naruto. most of my e-friends who read naruto are sick of my crack-rants about stupid things i think up, but it really really amazes me about how many people flock to sasuke and make all kinds of crack about him [and now sai, for that matter]. Is there something i'm not getting that the character has that has been written so subtly i haven't picked it up? what's so great about sasuke? i'm more interested in seeing naruto show us the other two stages of Rasengan [not including Odama Rasengan] or finding out about the Akatsuki.. Or finding out about what Jiraiya's been up to all this time! or Konohamaru! i just find i'm personally more interested in the changes in the village rather than just SASUKE. let's see more new designs. we know sasuke will be wearing black or blue and looking angsty. [that'd be a way to shock us, have him wearing something colourful for a change] It's not like i hate you narutards or anything; it's just half the crack you make about sasuke and all, i don't find it funny at all! infact, most naruto crack! someone help me understand.

haha Sasuke is fun to poke fun of because of his stereotype. XD Stereotype popular quiet brooding guy with lots of angst to drown the village fanclub in. It gets boring seeing the stereotype so it's fun to start poking fun at them.
Sai, is a different story XD He's fun to poke fun yet because his personality is plain quirky

Well, Sasuke is a well-drawn character and if you want to look at the Naruto story as a whole, Sasuke is an important character. Everything that’s been painted through the Sennin and Kakashi’s old team show that Naruto comes in threes and Sasuke being saved from the path of darkness seems to be one of the key elements of the series as whole.

Sasuke’s also one of the main characters who hasn’t shown up in over a year and this arc looks Sasuke-friendly so of course several people are excited about him. On another note, I have to say that Sasuke is probably one of the better-drawn angsty-revenge-broken characters I’ve seen in a long time.

no... no i'm sorry i can't agree with that first part. Kakashi's been the only one to come good. Sasuke caved in and went to orochimaru. Regardless of if they get him back or not, it's not like everything will be peaches and cream because they won't be able to trust him. the way i see it, Sasuke is currently a Sound Nin [or a Missing Nin in association with Sound]. If they get Sasuke back, it won't matter. Because they won't be able to trust him, And if they do then i think it's just plain unrealistic in that aspect... Sasuke is too full of himself. He caved in when it came to chosing right and wrong, and now he'll just have to live with it. I don't think he should be accepted as a leaf ninja ever again.

Hrn. Personally, I think people who complain about Sasuke are just as annoying as the ones that obsess to the extreme about him. Like other people have said, he's a good character, he's an important character, he's a character that's been missing and with his return, there is obviously going to be people who are excited for his returning appearance [guilty >>]

Though I DO see where you are coming from. People who are just reading Naruto for Sasuke seriously need to get a life. Because there are so many characters in the whole storyline other then our favorite brooding Uchiha.

People uber-fangirl **ALL** the characters from this series. You say the moment Sasuke shows up the nets will be flooded with new!Sasuke fancrap, but the moment they showed Sasori's real face the net was flooded with PRETTY!SASORI fancrap. There's excessive fancrap of EVERYTHING IN NARUTO, people have been poo-ing their pants about seeing ALL of the new character designs for timejump (I had a conniption over Hinata and Kiba :D), people are just talking about Sasuke now because he's the last one to see. And if ya hadn't noticed, Sasuke has a huge fanbase but also, possibly, one of the largest hatebases. I think he's like, the only character (except for Gaara also, because supposedly he eats babies) who have lj hate communities based to them.

So yah. I never understand why people post "I HATE THIS CHARACTER" rants in Chuunin. Blah.

I personally dont like Sasuke as my favorite character, but I don't dislike him, either. I don't really think he's is quite 'stereotype', either. Although some people might like that stereotype (I know I occasionally dont mind it), I think he has a few more layers in him that just the emo anti-hero out for revenge. I'm not going to beat you up and tell you Sasuke is hot, or super-cool, but I really think he's an interesting character. (And, he's fun to draw! XD)

Sasuke is nowhere near being my favourite, but this post is pure flamebait ("you narutards", "i can't wait to read replies to this", etc.). I'm sure they'd appreciate this and the 246645 topics like it over at Naruto Forums, though.

I like Sasuke because he is pretty, easy to make fun of, and doesn't grate my nerves. That is probably as good a reason as anyone needs to like a character and make fanart/fanfic/sheer crack of them.

and about his being angsty; yes sasuke can be a little dick. but think about it. my friend, as much as i love her, is very angsty and some what depressed because her mother passed away

Seriously though, Sasuke can be annoying but so can any character who's got an overabundance of something. Sasuke has an angst overload, Ino has an obnoxious overload and Sakura has a whiney overload. Everyone's got something to an extreme which can make them come across as stereotypical, but that doesn't make them a bad character. And, in case you haven't noticed, the series is called "Naruto" which means it will focus on Naruto and what Naruto finds important. In this case, finding Sasuke is important so there's a lot of Sasuke focus.

I love you. That's all I'm going to say. I really do agree w. what you're saying. I'm not a fan of Sasuke, in fact, I could care less if he comes back or not and my theory is that he'll never be able to live throughout the series (I'm thinking Itachi and he destroy each other). However, I will admit that his importance to Naruto is something that is a key in the series but I'm really not all that fangirly about him. I would much rather just follow Naruto around, he may be simple minded but he has more fun. I'm sorry, I don't so much want to follow angsty, emo dude around all the time.

Well my cereal is getting soggy so I'm not going to go much more into my feelings but I do agree w. you full-heartely. (And now that I said I don't care if Sasuke comes back, I also want to say that I sorta do want him to return in one of those lovely bow and potato sack outfits Oro seems so fond of. Well... some people like this and some people like that. I don't hate Sasuke... and I don't love him too. He's a very important character (and it's so amazing that he is still in the minds of everyone more than a year after his last appearance) and well, I'm dying to see him again in the manga. Not because it's OMG!SAS'KE IS BACK! but because I'm DYING to see the reactions of Naruto, Sakura and everyone else. They can be predictable (naruto going YOUNG MAN YOU GO BACK HOME THIS VERY INSTANT)... but I can't imagine what Sakura's reaction is going to be. Nope. Or Kakashi's.

About fanworks... well, I usually read/watch/see them for their quality and don't care about the character and so and so. I do not 'ship slash relationships but man... some of the best fanfics i've read have slash themes or some of the best fanarts I've encountered have minor characters like Genma, Raidou, Hayate, etc... that I really don't care about. But woooo... great artwork. Yup.

I don't feel that it really matters what other people think of a certain character because it's just one of those subjective things that you can't help. The same applies to what some people find funny. It's not really yours to judge on a wholly objective basis. Many people are drawn to generically stoic or moderately tragic characters (Tezuka, Kanda, Killua, etc.), which, perhaps might be because of the anime demographic (teenagers). People who are interested in Sasuke don't disregard the storyline in general, but most people are curious about what happened to Sasuke considering that it is a big motivating force for all of the characters at this point, and what happens to Sasuke does decide a lot of how Naruto or Sakura will act in the future. People are excited to see Sasuke again, because he is a big part of the story. He has been for the majority of the series, and is a big motivating force for the main character.

People make Sasuke-centred crack because he's so serious, and some people find it funny to put him through all sorts of odd situations that make him react in interesting ways. The same applies to Itachi, Orochimaru, etc. Since they take themselves so seriously it's just fun for people to poke fun at them and really expose their object of (unusual) obsession (I've read some concerning Itachi and his application of nailpolish, obsession with being the most evil, and poor eyesight recently).

Sasuke will probably get a makeover since all the other characters have already, perhaps in the style of the Sound Five since now he's a Sound brat.

my biggest problem with Sasuke is that he dosn't actually HAVE a personality, practicly all of the time spent in the series, manga and anime, are either spent doing something regarding fighting, and pushing people who want to be his friends(or more than in Sakura's case)away. that dosn't show any personality, just drive and determination. hes just plain boring IMO. I dread his returning because it will just pull the attention away from characters that actually have personality... and bog down the plot...

but the most annoying thing I have to say is the SasuNaru crap that most of the more BL minded side of the fandom spews when Sasuke and Naruto so much as look at each other funny, and then they get mad at those of us that like other pairings when they encompass 80% of the fanworks. its a pain in the butt to wade through them all T_T

Sasuke isn't my favorite character, however I also have the same crappy personality as him. Real life friends make crack about me over it. Sasuke is complicated. He is more than he shows. I think most wonder how he'll turn out. Will his inner self win, or his outer self. Stereotype or not, he's not a bad character and has a higher meaning in the plot of the series. Sasuke makes me laugh. He displays exactly how rediculous and silly my anger and arrogance can be. Of course, I don't change my personality. I could care less if others don't like it. I'm sure Sasuke doesn't care if you like him either. ;)
