RP Pimpage and Hamlet
Apr. 25th, 2006 10:11 amYes this is partly a RP Pimpage post but I'm putting it under a cut so those of you who aren't interested in those sorts of things don't have to be bothered. I will however pose a question so you do feel this post has some use to you.
Does anyone else feel that Izumo and Kotetsu are the Naruto equivalent of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern? I love Hamlet (second only to Macbeth), so at the risk of prompting a few disturbing fan fiction ideas, I took to comparing them a bit further. I mean Sasuke's angsting might come close to Hamlet's and Sakura could make a decent Ophelia (though honestly the role could be filled by Hinata just as well). Naruto would be Laertes and Itachi... definitely Claudius.
Then I remember why I went into computer science instead of literature... But in any case, my question is do you ever find yourself comparing Naruto to other works, not necessarily other anime?

During a period of time in which the Five Shinobi Nations are at odds with one another, when alliances are strained and aid rests on the back burner, the consequences of Gaara's capture (and subsequent rescue) have taken their toll. Although the initial return of Suna's Kazekage prompted tighter relations between the two nations, tension sparked as soon as the general populace received word of Konoha's intervention--what good is a hidden village if they can't even retrieve their own?
Sunagakure began to fall. Over the next five years, the lack of a strong leader (a Kazekage with no real power) and a general waning of imports began to disintegrate the tight walls of Suna. In a desert land with little to no natural resources, the shinobi and civilian alike relied on the income from missions and daimyo supported donations. When both began to dwindle, bands of Suna-nin broke off from the village and formed their own, rag-tag clans. Realizing that they now lacked both resources and protection, civilians soon followed.
Konoha remains overshadowed by the decline of their greatest ally, and currently plays host to the former royal family and whatever civilians and shinobi wanted to find home. In the midst of all other struggles, the citizens of Konoha are forced into trying to accept a strange people they don't quite despise and can't quite trust--just where do they stand?--while ANBU, now at the disposal of both the Hokage and the former Kazekage, actively seek out Sunagakure missing-nin. Konoha cannot allow for the possibility that any of the rogue nin harbor ill-will toward their former allies.
