Cosplay Question
May. 24th, 2006 05:34 pmPost-timeskip cosplay question, having to do with about chapter 260~ish.
And for those of you who will be at AnimeBoston, hope to see you there!
For anyone who has cosplayed Kazekage Gaara, or are, what did you do about attaching the gourd to yourself/your costume? I do not know if it is much different from pre-timeskip Gaara.
I am not cosplaying him myself, but I have in my possession a Gaara-gourd and the person to whom it belongs is perplexed about just how he is going to go about doing this. With only tonight and tomorrow left for him to figure it out, I thought I would give him a hand and ask people who knew.

Date: 2006-05-24 10:04 pm (UTC)I keep reading about the amount of Sasukes there'll be! XD I'm outnumbered, I have to find the other Akatsuki cosplayers.

Date: 2006-05-24 10:05 pm (UTC)i might go as deidara one of the days...it depends on if i finish my sasuke costume on time xD
no subject
Date: 2006-05-24 10:11 pm (UTC)Hooray Deidara! I wish I were blonde, because I would be him instead. However, Itachi is fairly close to my heart and now my hair looks like his so, decided! :)

Date: 2006-05-24 10:30 pm (UTC)this one ^^
not sure if its gonna happen though...i have the kimono i made with the squares & the scarf, but as we speak i'm trying to iron on the little leaves and it's not working *dies*
xD i'm not blonde either...hurrah for wigs! Itachi is love. =D
no subject
Date: 2006-05-24 10:53 pm (UTC)I only have to make Itachi's necklace (I kept forgetting about it >.<) tonight and I'm done! Hurrah! Hm...iron-on leaves? That's interesting. Is sewing not an option at this point?
I figure that wigs are a pain, so I decided not to bother. Besides, I only decided this about three months ago (tight for complicated cosplay) so, I just decided on Itachi because, like I said, I already look like him enough. If only I were a little bit taller and male!

Date: 2006-05-24 11:09 pm (UTC)well, ironing would come out nicer-looking rather than sewing on the little pieces T_T
ooo! i love itachi's necklace. you look like itachi?
i'm so super glomping you x3xD so have you cosplayed before?no subject
Date: 2006-05-24 11:46 pm (UTC)Yes, it would, though there is also the issue of integrity. Of course, with my poor, poor, sad, sad sewing skills, ironing would definitely be better! I meant in the case that you have a sewing machine or somesuch.
It's a pain in the butt. Simple enough, but still a pain since a friend is currently hoarding the glue gun that would make it go about 30 minutes quicker >.< Look like Itachi? Yup! Or, I think I do, and my brother. As much as a girl can, though he is pretty girly. I'm just not pale like he is. I have a picture of myself with my costume mostly done (just no minor bits), if you want to see.
I'll try to look for you depending on the costume, hope your Sasuke one gets done in time!.And I have cosplayed before, but I'll say that it didn't count. I was Isis from Yugioh and that was much less of a deal because it was both a smaller fandom (in practice) and a smaller convention. It was also not terribly complicated, except the jewelry I made. Yourself?

Date: 2006-05-25 12:16 am (UTC)thank you < 3 i hope so too x3!! i went as a not-counting shadi to the movie theatre when the yu-gi-oh! movie first came out in the us xDD
mm, i went as itachi and sasuke last year to AB...:D

Date: 2006-05-25 12:38 am (UTC)Of course, my face isn't showing because this is the internets, and my mother caught me with my mouth open XP But oh well! Here I am not wearing the leggings, but I have those now, yup!
Sweet! I wish I had seen the movie in theaters, but seeing as I didn't like the movie (the crack, it hurts!) at that time and was REALLY shy, well, I didn't ;_; You rock for being a fellow Yugioh fan, though ^_^
Both? Cool. I had no clue who anyone was from Naruto last year, I was such a n00b :P I noticed A Sasuke, but not more than that.

Date: 2006-05-25 01:06 am (UTC)xD yeah the movie was really crappy...but i love yu-gi-oh! its so hard to find other fans that aren't like...4 =___= *hugs* =D have you seen the end of the series yet? =o
xD that sasuke could have been me o=

Date: 2006-05-25 01:16 am (UTC)And thanks for the compliment, I hope I look good at the convention! :D And you, too, can't wait to see. Maybe I'll get you first!
Everyone was totally out of character in that movie, it drove me crazy! I actually like a bunch of the songs on the soundtrack ^.^; but that random song for Kaiba in the middle of the movie? Wth? I also like the first fifteen minutes or so, but, *sigh*. Hm, the fandom is huge, though. Are you a member of
And yup! I have seen the end of the series, as well as a good portion of it subbed (of course the ending was)
It was a boy, I believe. I might have seen you, of course, but had not enough brain power to connect one from another. Like I said, I could hardly recognize a Naruto if it walked into me, so :P

Date: 2006-05-25 04:02 pm (UTC)oh noes! xD i'll be on the lookout x3 i'm sure you'll look wonderful :D
ahahha yes!~ it goes something like how come my only friends are the ones i pay!?! Yugiou fans are awesome!! *glompal* it's so amazing.
=o i haven't heard of that community, i'll have to look into it :D:D so who's your favorite yugiou charectar?
Did you like it? I cried =____= yess! sub-yugiou pwns! x3
xD

Date: 2006-05-26 04:00 am (UTC)and you too! Just one more half a day...*typing with one hand because the other's nails are drying*
I have it on my computer :P *is a loser* All of the other songs on the sound track are not in the movie. Yes, we are! It's a trend that I have noticed- they're all such nice people! *glomps back*
No?! Well, well then! They're the ones that taught me that I wasn't alone :) They are all wonderful, friendly people. And my favorite character? Hm...Yugi. Followed by Kaiba and Ryou, though I do like Yami Bakura. So many to like! And yourself?
I did like it, even if I had been spoiled beforehand. I came close to crying (I'm not quite the crying type)

Date: 2006-05-24 10:18 pm (UTC)from the looks of this cosplay it seems to be just strapped on around the upper waist? Hmmm :O Dunno if this will help you much but... figured it'd be worth a try!

Date: 2006-05-24 11:50 pm (UTC)I told him to make sure it was tight and to add some glue or something just to be sure. And, are you serious? O.o; I'm afraid of fangirls myself (cosplaying Itachi) but I wasn't sure if I was getting worked up over a rumor or if they really do come flying at you! Aw man...
Yes, it does! Thank you for your advice :)

Date: 2006-05-24 10:22 pm (UTC)I've seen other Gaara cosplayers use simple ropes and also how its supposed to be held, like with the sashes from the first two outfits. His third outfit holds the gourd from his belts, if I remember correctly.. though it's always also attached to his body with the aid of the sand besides just being a manga and defying gravity.
So, straps... and ropes and cords and sashes. Also could help to know what his is made out of and how heavy it is ^__^;
no subject
Date: 2006-05-24 10:45 pm (UTC)The gourd is not very heavy (two beach balls, newspaper, paint) but heavy enough that it cannot be held by anything weak. If it were more resilient, I would maybe suggest some hooks or something to him, but I think straps/sashes are better, just tightly wrapped and adhered to the surface of the gourd itself, just as a safety.
Thank you for the advice!

I'll take pictures of Sasukes for you, k? And you cannot escape my Rufus icon. Even on a Naruto comm. :P
no subject
Date: 2006-05-24 11:31 pm (UTC)I would like to see that happen to you but I'd like to attack the Sasukes also.
Hmm...pictures are nice. ^_^ Rufus reminds me of the psychopathic demonic child in my larp short story. That name is forever contaminated. Hamilton pwns Rufus anyday.
no subject
Date: 2006-05-24 11:53 pm (UTC)Yup! And Rufus isn't a psychopath! Oh, is the kid in your story named Rufus? My characters all have weird names like Theremon and Sor. And you cannot compare the two, they are both sexy and special in their own way :)

Date: 2006-05-25 12:48 am (UTC)Sorry, girlie, I don't share the same sentiments for Rufus.

Date: 2006-05-25 02:47 am (UTC)Pre-timeskip Gaara is pretty easy, the sashes serve a purpose. But Kaze-Gaara lacks these oh so useful things. [I'm surmising Gaara is using some of that
HyrulianSunagakure velcro that seemed to be popular with Link back on in Ocarina (http://deathamster.flyingomelette.com/reviews/graphics/zelda64.jpg) of Time. (http://www.triforce-legend.com/jeux/oot/OOT_Image.png) Then Link seemed to dislike such a fashion statement and got a strap in Majora's (http://www.gamecritics.com/review/zelda64mm/screen01.jpg) Mask (http://www.justadventure.com/reviews/Zelda_Majora/screenshot1.jpg).... XD] On such mention, I think velcro straps either sew or erm.. just slapped on with the sticky side [pain to clean] to Gaara's coat would be an easy, effective and stable way to go.Or could either use a thin red or black sash, and hide it under the vest. I think that would be the simplest and quickest to do, but probably the least stable if not tied tightly enough. :0
Take pictures of you and your friend if you get the chance though, I'd love to see them. ^_^
no subject
Date: 2006-05-26 01:33 pm (UTC)Hm. Velcro straps would be okay if they could be made secure enough. I'm not sure which route he decided to take
or if he's even done anything yet, d'oh!but I mentioned to him that he might try a sash anyway, and just make sure that it was securely attached to the gourd surface.Sure! ^_^ I'm hoping to see lots of people and take lots of pictures.
