Chapter 359: Discuss

chuunin_archiveAs a sucker for character back story, I really liked this chapter. It brought to light (somewhat, anyway) how Akatsuki recruits people. It also, naturally, brought more questions, like how long has Deidara been in Akatsuki or, better yet, how long Itachi has been in the organization. I'm wondering if he was in it before the massacre of his clan, but that's a theory for another time.
Anyway, I liked how this chapter was set up with the battle and the back story intertwining; it didn't seem so out of place as, say, Orochimaru's "white snake skin" thing at the end of chapter 344 (?). It also made me laugh because of Deidara's seemingly naivete (I mean, what ninja goes around explaining their techniques to possible foesaside from maybe Naruto? It didn't seem like he had been expecting Akatsuki to show up and recruit him...), but that made me appreciate his character all the more. It also made me wonder how old he's supposed to be presently and at that time.
As an artist, I also really liked how he thought of Itachi (or at least the sharigan) as true art XD.
But, clearly his pride is going to be his own undoing with Sasuke. D:
Speaking of Sas-cakes... He should stay shirt/cloak/whatever-less. At all times. Yum.
I want Tobi to do something beneficial in the upcoming chapters, like, save his dear sempai from impending doom.
Here's to hoping Deidara doesn't get himself blown up/killed dead.

Date: 2007-06-23 03:26 am (UTC)Mm, I've been wondering about Deidara's age for awhile. The ages of these characters (for the most part) are never what I first intend them to be. Kabuto, for example, is older than Itachi. I somehow had the pegged differently.

Date: 2007-06-23 02:21 am (UTC)---Deidara saying "Behold! Isn't it impressive?" was totally hilarious to me. What a show-offy little boy. The picture was awesome too. If I were an icon maker,I would have a caption saying, like, "I'll name him fluffy!" Or Jackson. Or something.
--Speaking of little boys, I won't be surprised if he was, say, 13 or 14 in the flashback and only about 17 now. I always thought he was the same age or younger than Itachi, this just pretty much prooves it.
--I think it's safe to say that Deidara has two perfectly healtly eyes. There's three panels where you can tell he doesn't have his whatchamacallit on, and in one both eyes are open (page 4). Oh well. I guess and artist with depth perception is a good thing.
--Whoo! Let's lose some more clothes, boys! You next, Tobi!
--I really, really, really hope Deidara doesn't die. He's been my favorite Akatsuki member since he was introduced, and only Shikamaru beats him (because of seniority...).
--I didn't think it was possible for anyone to have more hair than Neji, but Deidara managages nicely.
--Finally...where did the hole in the wall behind Itachi come from? I find Deidara's stubborn crush on Itachi ('s looks...) amusing.
Can't wait to see this animated! Deidara has an eating disorder. He needs to join a "Avoid using eating as a means of self-destruction' club. Ha ha.

Date: 2007-06-23 08:51 am (UTC)This chapter was hilarious, and I'm really excited about this Garuda bomb he's making. Garuda is a Buddhist and Hindu god that is humanoid but resembles an eagle. He eats snakes, and when he was born from his egg he had the form of a massive inferno. The temple that they're in in the flashback seems Buddhist. Go look up Garuda because he's awesome anyway, but there are lots of hints that Deidara may have worshipped or idolized him. I can't wait for the next chapter! 8D

I'd agree with that, the sharigan, his fighting style, or perhaps a combonation of all three. I, personally, think it's the latter, in the sense that Itachi is a living emobidment of art. Deidara's reluctance to accept that (and now with Sasuke) could stem from feeling inferior; he's dedicated his whole life to being an artist and yet Itachi becomes one with little to no effort. There's also the fact that Deidara considers his art to be in it's prime when it's alive, right before it explodes. I think him having seen Itachi in that light stemmed that awe.But that could all be me over-thinking characters XD.
Oh, Sascakes didn't escape my attention. Can we say hott?
