My thoughts on 408. Spoilers for...pretty much everything.

I don't think that Sasuke understands how the Akatsuki works at all. Of course, he's not stupid. He knows that they're collecting tailed beasts and has a general idea why. Power. That's attractive to him. However, he doesn't know how they do it, or what results.

1) Orochimaru had no reason to ever mention how the extraction process works to Sasuke. When you want to keep someone under your control, you keep them in the dark as much as possible.

2) I'm sure Sasuke heard about Gaara, who is clearly still alive. Any suspicions he had at that point should have been disproven.

3) Here, Sasuke asks if they've caught the nine-tails yet. You could say this is an assumption, but if it was, I think he would say instead "You mean the nine-tails...and one other." Or something along those lines. He may think it's possible that they already caught Naruto in the past. Further proving that he doesn't know extraction kills the host is the fact that he's been with Akatsuki for about two days and saw Naruto just before--there is no chance that it was done since then, and he doesn't know the details of the process.

4) Sasuke does not kill anyone who had nothing to do with his revenge. This isn't just his decision, but Kishimoto's. Orochimaru was still alive after he was done with him, and so was Deidara. He wouldn't agree to kill an innocent stranger and his best friend in order to get what he wants. He learned that years ago.

I do think that Sasuke has a plan, but I think he's too ignorant to pull it off properly. He's gonna need a major wakeup call when the time comes, and I think it'll be soon. After all, Naruto is going off on his own with just the frog, and it wouldn't take more than Pein's rinnengan to get someone to spill the beans about that.

I agree, he seems pretty lost.

I anticipate a collision where he, like last time, fails to kill those who he's once hold dear (who did not kill his entire family XD).

I have hope for Sasuke as well. I think, despite the fact his latest "choices" are ones I highly disapprove of, when it comes down to it, I'd like to think that Sasuke still has pieces of his sanity/humanity left. I really think he wouldn't let anything happen to Naruto. He is his best friend after all. =]

Because Sasuke and Naruto are going to combine forces in order to take Madara down in the end

This is very probable, but nothing gets the idea that Sasuke's up to something from my head... We've seen him lure and strike before, with Orochimaru, pulling the rug right out from under his supposed master. So I'm betting he's doing it again, and illuding Madara with false compliance.

I think he called him the nine tails in order to distance himself. Once he says 'Naruto' it becomes much more personal.

But he could have killed Naruto a thousand times already. Despite everything he's done, I don't think he -really- wanted to. Yeah, I know that's a stretch considering all the chidoris and how he was gonna use That Jutsu and everything, but...that's just the way I think of it.

Sasuke is like a puzzle in Silent Hill; They can be pretty easy to figure out but there's always one that makes you confused as hell, and even with a walk through and cheats, you can never figure that little bastard out. >8|

Concerning Sasuke, I still hope that he will betray Madara. Actually I am pretty sure he will, for the simple reason that Madara helped kill his clan, and also that it is out of character for Sasuke to be anyone's subordinate. (I admit however that the Akatsuki cloaks for Team Taka got me worried.)

What I am not so sure about: Whether he will really attack Konoha, and decide not to spare Naruto. He decided not to kill Naruto in chapter 234, but now things have changed - he "knows" now (or thinks he knows) that Konoha was responsible for the massacre.

If he would only stop to think and ask questions!

Concerning Pein, I think that Naruto will beat him - actually I think that Madara is sending Pein to defeat Naruto knowing that Pein won't be able to control the Nine-tails - only the Sharingan can do this - and that he wants Pein dead - but then it will be Madara who will capture Naruto himself.

I do believe that Sasuke intends to betray Madara as well. The cloaks threw me off for a second but wearing them is actually a great way for Sasuke to 'prove' his loyalty to Madara - besides, it's just a piece of cloth, he still wears his Oro belt after all.

Who would he ask? Madara's only going to tell him whatever he thinks will make Sasuke obey him.

This is the first time I've heard someone doubt Pain's victory - you think Naruto will beat him? How so - with the Kyuubi or the new sage training?

I'm sure he will betray him, too. He knows Madara is a bad guy by simple logic:

1) If Madara was lying about Itachi, then he is a manipulative bastard and a liar.
2) If Madara was telling the truth about Itachi, and Itachi wanted Madara to stay away from Sasuke, then he must be a manipulative bastard.

Either way, bad guy. :3

Well Sasuke already said that he only plans to get revenge on those directly responsible, and that no one else will be involved. Maybe he thinks that if he has a bijuu then he can distract everyone while he does that. But killing Naruto and a total stranger really does go against that decision.

though i'm not sure if his policy of "not killing innocent ppl" is still on, cuz he is not avenging his family, but his brother, and konoha is the enemy, also he said he would do anything to get stronger;but you're right Kishi puts Sasuke so "pure" as itachi said.
Agree,Sasuke doesn't have a good plan, yet he thinks he has one, which is sad ;_; cuz he is making it all wrong though for the good reasons.

That is the most brilliant theory! The fact is, it makes alot of sense considering the context in which the Akatsuki "LEADERS" are fighting. We all know that Pein and Madara have opposite ideologies when it comes to what the Akatsuki are trying to do. They are subtle about it, of course. And this is one the most sneaky moves by Madara yet - sending Pein after Naruto-Nine-Tails when he obviously doubts Pein's ability to win the battle.

However, will Naruto ACTUALLY call forth the Fox to help him? I think it'd be his last resort, especially if he trains with Fukasaku... Hmm. All very interesting.

All in all I agree with you :3 (dead Hachibi and bad folks after Naruto--> trauma for Sasuke).

But I'm not sure if Sasuke is in fact trying to *capture* Hachibi.....I may be proven wrong the very next chap, but as of now, I'm inclined to think he has a deal on his mind instead of a fight. You see, Madara officially *gave* Hachibi to them. I think Sasuke will try to get the man to co-operate with them (of course Pein won't have any of it, but then Madara will show him who's the boss >:3, because I don't think Madara cares about Pein's plans).

I was actually considering that myself :3 I got myself confused while reading, and forgot who Fukasaku was -__- So when the title of the chapter was "Fukasaku's proposal" I thought it was the hachibi and that something was gonna be proposed! :D

Ahh, this cheers me up somewhat. Well, I already knew these points, but I was still very disappointed in Sasuke for going after the 8-tails anyway. But since it's true it's very likely he doesn't know what's he's doing/the consequences of handing a bijuu over to Akatsuki... so... I should be lenient, be lenient. -_- *sighs* I just want him to realize his mistake quickly. I think I'm mostly suffering from Sasuke-Naruto-interaction-withdrawal. Interaction being more than Naruto catching a sight of Sasuke and then getting pwned and ditched by him in an instant.
